U.S. Court of Appeals Case No: 21-1235
U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota
[PUBLISHED] [Smith, Author, with Gruender and Kobes, Circuit Judges]
Civil case - Civil rights. In this action plaintiff, a detainee at the
Becker County Jail in Minnesota, alleged defendants were deliberately
indifferent to his medical needs and failed to adequately train and
supervise corrections officers at the jail; the undisputed facts do not
provide sufficient proof that the defendants acted with deliberate
indifference; the facts do not show intentional denial or delay in access
to medical care or interference with the treatment provided; plaintiff
failed to show the defendants violated his Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment
rights when they failed to recognize the seriousness of an underlying
medical condition that repeatedly eluded trained medical professionals; as
plaintiff's constitutional rights were not violated, his Monell claims
fail; defendants were entitled to qualified immunity on plaintiff's
negligence claims.
