U.S. Court of Appeals Case No: 98-2442
and No: 98-2447
District of Minnesota
Civil case - Consumer law. In action challenging rent-to-own
contracts as usurious under Minnesota law, plaintiffs lacked
standing to bring RICO claims and failed to establish that the
defendants, who are all part of one corporate family, were
sufficiently distinct for RICO or conspiracy purposes; remedy
order awarding $29 million in damages and refunds affirmed, with
exception of creation of a cy pres fund.
